About Lanta Marine National Park

Lanta Marine National Park

Lanta Marine National Park is located in Krabi Province along Thailand’s Andaman Sea coast and encompasses several islands, including parts of Ko Lanta Yai, Ko Lanta Noi, and surrounding smaller islands. Established in 1990, the park protects approximately 134 square kilometers of marine and island environments, featuring coral reefs, seagrass beds, and coastal mangrove forests. Its tropical climate and clear waters support diverse ecosystems including hard and soft corals, sea turtles, reef fish, and occasionally visiting whale sharks and dolphins. The park is recognized for exceptional snorkeling and diving opportunities along vibrant reef flats and drop-offs, with popular dive sites such as Hin Ngam and Hin Daeng in nearby open waters. Visitors can enjoy sandy beaches, jungle trekking on some larger islands, and wildlife spotting including monitor lizards and various bird species. Historically, the area has been important for local fishing communities, and park regulations help balance conservation with tourism. The park’s remote islands offer a tranquil environment compared to more developed tourist centers. Lanta Marine National Park appeals to nature lovers, snorkelers, divers, and those seeking quiet beach escapes with rich underwater biodiversity. Facilities are limited to preserve the natural setting, and visitors are encouraged to minimize impacts on coral and wildlife. It is an essential protected area contributing to the conservation of Thailand’s marine habitats and coastal ecosystems. Accessibility is usually via boat from nearby Krabi or Ko Lanta townships, making it a popular day trip or overnight destination within the southern Thailand marine park network.
